COVID-19 (Corona Virus) UPDATE
The Humane Society of Durham Region has implemented updated procedures for Phase 3 of reopening due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation.
Since March, the HSDR is proud to have been able to continue assisting animals in need, while still offering services to the public following an appointment based and curbside model.
We encourage anyone interested in adopting an animal to review all animals currently available for adoption on our adoption pages: For dogs click here, for cats click here, for small mammals click here.
In person adoption interviews can be completed during your visitation appointment, if timing permits. Our dedicated shelter staff will review the visitation appointment guidelines during your appointment booking.
FOR ANIMAL INTAKES:
Donations of items/supplies can be dropped off at the shelter without making an appointment anytime between the hours of 11am – 6pm, 7 days a week. Kindly leave the donation of items outside the front doors of the shelter and our staff will bring them inside.
If you would like to make a monetary donation in person you can do so without an appointment during the hours of 11am – 6pm, 7 days a week. Kindly ring the doorbell at the front doors of the shelter and our shelter staff will assist you and bring you inside to make your donation by cash, cheque, credit or debit. FOR PET FOOD BANK SERVICES:
HSDR has been grateful to be able to offer pet food bank services for pets in need in our community and continues to do so.
If you would like to access our pet food, you do not need to make an appointment. Kindly ring the door bell at the front of the shelter between then hours of 11am – 6pm 7 days a week, and our staff will bring pet food outside to you.
Alternatively, you can call the shelter at 905-665-730 ex 0 or send us an email to book a time to pick up food and we will place the food outside the shelter doors at the time of your appointment with your name on it for contactless pick up.
FOR ALL OTHER SERVICES
We are very sorry to announce that our 17th Annual Golf Tournament at Kedron Dells Golf Club has been cancelled for this year. We're sure it would have been another rousing success, and we have been so grateful for the continued support over the years.
We have continued to take in animals during the pandemic and the community's need for our services has not diminished. Since March, we have taken in over 300 animals, most of whom have needed medical care. In addition, the draw on our pet food bank has increased and we are happy to help keep these pets with their owners.
This has been a blow to our fundraising efforts, as you can imagine.
Many thanks to the sponsors and early participants who changed their registration and usual sponsorship to a donation for a full tax receipt. That is extremely helpful!
